Abby Suiter

Abby Suiter, Practice Manager

Abby became a part of the DIAH team in 2009 after moving to the area from Indiana. She holds a BS in Industrial Management from Purdue University and is currently enrolled in the The Citadel's MBA program. Growing up in her parent’s animal clinic meant she had the opportunity to hold (and appreciate) many positions including tub and toilet cleaner, kennel attendant, dog bather, receptionist and doctor's assistant to earn her keep before moving into the world of management.

  • Why She Works at a Veterinary Hospital: “To promote the human-animal bond. My passion for animal health and a healthy bottom line makes practice management a truly rewarding and fulfilling profession.”

Missy Baldwin

Missy Baldwin, LVT, Head Technician

Missy joined Dr. Flood in opening Daniel Island Animal Hospital in January of 2004. She is a 2000 graduate of the Tri-Country Technical College Animal Health Technology program in Pendleton, SC. As an avid cat lover, she is currently working on OSU’s Indoor Pet Initiative. >^..^< Along with providing patient care, Missy is responsible for maintaining the hospital inventory and oversees our technicians and assistants.

Elizabeth Ferraro

Elizabeth Ferraro, Head Receptionist

Elizabeth has been a part of the DIAH reception team since January 2010. She holds a BA in Theatre/Speech from Wagner College in New York. In addition to client service, Elizabeth manages the many aspects of our front desk including Pet Portals, food ordering and overseeing our other receptionists.

Bethany Nicole

Bethany Nicole, LVT

Bethany’s veterinary career began at Daniel Island Animal Hospital during her vet tech externship in 2005. She went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from TTC with an AS in Veterinary Technology. She is also a 1999 graduate from the University of Akron with a BS in Biology. With a desire to serve her community, she joined the veterinary field to provide compassionate care and a friendly face for our clients and furry friends.

Mara Acevedo-Irizarry

Mara Acevedo-Irizarry, LVT

Mara joined us in 2008 when she moved to the Charleston area. She is a 2007 University of Puerto Rico graduate earning a BS in Veterinary Technology. Currently, she is working toward becoming a part of the Academy of Veterinary Technician Anesthetists and excels as one of our surgical technicians. Fluent in English and Spanish, she is available to help our Spanish speaking clients in their native language.

  • Family: Husband – Emmanuel; 1 year-old son - Giovanni; 2 cats – Lya Mercedes and Goya Beatriz; a dog – Yukon Do It; and a rabbit.
  • Hobbies: Taking care of her PRECIOUS baby and getting some SLEEP when she has a chance!
  • Favorite Part of DIAH: Working with anesthesia cases and exotics.

Chris Hill

Chris Hill, Receptionist

Chris began exploring the possibility of working in a veterinary hospital after acquiring 8 Basset Hounds! She’s been in the field for over 13 years now; with DIAH since 2005. As is the standard when working with animals, she has adopted several more family members over the years including a very special Beagle, Penny. Chris and Penny went to school to become pet therapy volunteers and together visited numerous nursing homes and hospices.

  • Family: Husband – Richard; 3 grown sons and 2 daughters-in-law (and a grandbaby on the way!); 2 family dogs – Buxton and Charlie
  • Favorite Part of DIAH: “Dr. Flood’s philosophy of service and exceptional care for both pets and their clients is what I was looking for when moving to Charleston and I found it!”

Lori Colson

Lori Colson, Receptionist

Lori joined our hospital in 2011 with a background of veterinary assisting and reception. She is a 2007 graduate of Trident Technical College with an AS in Veterinary Technology. In addition to her receptionist role, Lori also completes and submits pet insurance claims for our clients. A natural at client service, she holds the class-voted superlatives of “Miss Congeniality” and “Wittiest”.

  • Family: 3 cats – Darby, PopTart and Patches; 2 dogs – Trinity and Buddy

Erin Waldrop

Erin Waldrop, Technician's Assistant

Erin began her veterinary career at Daniel Island Animal Hospital in 2007. Pursuing her love of patient care, she is currently enrolled in Trident Technical College’s Veterinary Technology program and is scheduled to graduate in May 2012. She is known around our hospital as the “Puppy Appointment Thief” as she loves to help our doctor’s with their new puppy exams.

  • Family: Husband – Trey (currently on his first deployment to Afghanistan); 3 dogs – Deuce, Ally and Grits; 2 rabbits – Jalopy and Gertie; and a cat – Penny Lane
  • Fun Fact: Charleston native, oldest of 6
  • Hobbies: Gamecock football! Horseback riding, reading, retail therapy and running with her dogs (not all three at once!)

Vyonne Tezza

Vyonne Tezza, Technician’s Assistant/Receptionist

Vyonne began volunteering at our hospital in 2009 and has since become skilled and enjoyable teammate. She is currently enrolled at the College of Charleston earning her BA in History and plans to pursue a MSW upon graduation.

Mary Richardson

Mary Richardson, Technician’s Assistant/Groomer’s Assistant

Mary has always wanted to work with animals and got the chance when she joined our practice in 2009 as Teri’s assistant. She now splits her time between grooming and helping our technicians and doctors with our medical patients.

Michelle Wolfe

Michelle Wolfe, Groomer’s Assistant

Michelle has been a part of the DIAH team since 2009. She enjoys working with our patients while on the job and wishes she could take them all home with her at the end of the day! She is currently enrolled in Trident Technical College and plans to graduate with a degree in accounting and business in 2014.

Richard Flood

Richard Flood, Co-Owner/Token Male/Go For

Richard helped his wife, Dr. Flood, open our practice in January 2004. He has since become our dependable maintenance man and supplies shopper.

Elise Flood

Elsie Flood, “I run this joint!”

Elsie holds a P.E.T. degree from the Stray Cat School of Hard Knocks from which she graduated in 2002 (when Dr. Flood adopted her.) She decided to take up residence at our hospital as living on the streets was tough: life as a clinic cat seemed cozier than her cardboard box. Now, she spends her days lounging in the office, cleaning up leftover Cheez Whiz and eating Michelle’s lunch. Currently, she’s working toward cutting back on her rubber band eating habits.

  • Family: Dr. Flood – “My favorite lap. She even occasionally lets me lick the yogurt container when she’s finished!”
  • Dr. Luke – “I’m not fond of her. She uses me too much as a demonstration model.”
  • Dr. Chappell – “She brings some really good smelly lunches, but man she’s very stingy!”
  • Dr. Rainwater – “She instills cuddling as corporal punishment when I try to steal her broccoli salad. I retaliate by putting my paws in her coffee when she’s not looking!"
